Every year the second city plays host to some fantastic festive events, and this year is no exception. To make it easy for you to find them, we’ve rounded up our top picks for Christmas fun in Birmingham that are sure to please all the family!
Frankfurt Christmas Market
A firm fixture in Birmingham’s Christmas calendar, the Frankfurt Christmas Market returns with its vast array of delicious food and drink and traditional craft stalls.
If you’re visiting the market at a weekend, don’t forget to stop by and catch some live music, which is performed on the main stage in Victoria Square by a variety of talented singers, musicians and choirs.

Selfridges Party Parade
The iconic Selfridges store will be playing host to a marching band and dancing Santa on Saturday 16th December between 12-4pm.
Santa and his elves will also be spending time with shoppers in Selfridges, taking ‘elfies’ and spreading festive cheer each Saturday and Sunday until Christmas Eve.

Digbeth Apres Ski
Everyone knows that going skiing is all about the Apres Ski. So, skip the expensive bit and head to The Old Crown pub in Digbeth, which will be transforming into an authentic style Alpine lodge on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th, and Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd December.
There will plenty of festive food and drink on offer, including mulled wine, spiced cider and authentic fondues to get diners into the festive spirit.
Back by popular demand, the City Social pop up has returned to the underpass in front of The Mailbox, this time with a festive themed winter wonderland to offer an alternative spot to the Frankfurt Market to enjoy a festive drink.
Open until the 22nd December each day from 12pm – 9pm, City Social features local food and drinks, craft stalls and live music, with comfy sofas and outdoor heaters to keep you cosy and warm
Magical Lantern Festival
The Magical Lantern Festival returns to Birmingham this year and promises to be bigger and better, in its new and larger location of Kings Heath Park.
As well as hundreds of colourful and festive scenes, new for this year is a giant recreation of the Birmingham Central Library, guaranteed to provide the wow-factor.
Santa at the Sealife Centre
If you’re heading to the Sealife Centre this festive season, then don’t forget to pay a visit to Santa at the North Pole! Santa will be appearing every day until the 23rd December at the Antarctic Ice Cave, near the penguins, to give out gifts to young visitors.
There will also be screenings of the classic Christmas movie, The Polar Express, in the 4D cinema.
Light trail at the Botanical Gardens
A new attraction for this year, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens in Harborne invites guests to follow twinkling festive lights around a colourful trail. There will of course be traditional Christmas treats available too, from mulled wine and hot chocolate to roasted chestnuts.
The light trail is at the Gardens until the 30th December.
Ice Skate Birmingham & Observation Wheel
Whilst Centenary Square is undergoing its transformation, the popular ice rink and big wheel have been relocated to Eastside Green opposite Millennium Point for this year along with a few added extras to make it even more exciting than before The ice rink has had a roof put on it so that visitors can skate whatever the weather, and for those who don’t fancy strapping their skates on This year there is also a funfair..
The ice skate rink and big wheel will be at Eastside Green until 7th January 2018.
